Peppermint Fudge – Barefeet in the Kitchen
Creamy dark chocolate peppermint fudge is topped with crushed candy canes for a wonderful Christmas treat.
Five-minute fudge recipes are my saving grace this time of year. I always want to be that hostess or friend with tons of holiday treats at her fingertips, but then time gets away from me.

As an added bonus, a piece of this fudge will melt beautifully into a steaming mug of milk and make a wonderful cup of peppermint hot chocolate! I’ve already stashed this fudge in the freezer to make cocoa through the holiday season.
I have always loved making candy and treats to share. But have to admit the traditional candy-making process can get tedious. So, finding a way to get such delicious holiday flavors in an easy fashion is a winner in my book.
Easy Peppermint Fudge
The best part – no one knows the difference. No one will believe that you made this in just five minutes and five ingredients. I love adding this fudge to cookie trays to share with friends and neighbors.
Stored correctly Peppermint Fudge will keep nicely in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Store in an airtight container, separating multiple layers with parchment or wax paper. Serve from the refrigerator.
I strongly suggest storing Peppermint Fudge in its own container. Do not combine it with other treats in a tightly enclosed container. If you store them together, everything in that container will become peppermint in flavor.
I have a family member that prefers this fudge without the candy on top, so I usually only top about half of the recipe with crushed candy canes. The portion without candy is still full of peppermint flavor and everyone loves it.
Can I Freeze Fudge?
Peppermint Fudge can be frozen for several months. Thaw in the refrigerator when ready to serve. Fudge should be wrapped tightly in wax paper or plastic wrap. Then place in an airtight container or freezer bag.
When storing multiple layers in a single container, they can be wrapped in single layers and then stacked in a single container. Store separate flavors in separate containers to maintain the best flavor.
You’ll need the following ingredients to make this recipe:
- semi-sweet chocolate chips
- sweetened condensed milk
- peppermint extract
- mini candy canes (optional)
Peppermint Fudge Recipe
- Combine the milk, the chocolate, and the butter in a medium size glass bowl and heat in the microwave for 90 seconds. Stir to combine and heat for another 15 seconds if needed.
- Add the extract and stir until smooth. Scoop the mixture onto a parchment-lined tray. Spread with a spatula to approximately 1-inch thickness.
- Top with crushed candy canes, if desired. Chill until ready to serve. Slice into squares and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
COOK’S NOTE: Measure peppermint extract very carefully. Do not measure the extract over the mixing bowl! If you add even a few drops too much, the flavor will change from “mint” to “toothpaste.”
If you’re craving this mid-year and candy canes can’t be found, any crushed mint candy will work!
Best Fudge Recipes
5 minute fudge can be made in endless combinations. Just when I think I have made every version possible I get another crazy idea. Like – what if I add peanut butter, or peanut butter and Oreos?
White Chocolate Pretzel Fudge is a salty, sweet, and crunchy treat that I love including on candy and cookie platters to share with friends. Chocolate Covered Oreo Fudge was inspired by the fudge-covered Oreos that became popular a couple of years ago and we all found it so much better than anything from a box.
For something a little different on your holiday baking list, how about trying this M&M White Chocolate Fudge or this Cookies and Cream Fudge? I think white chocolate and vanilla fudge varieties look so pretty, especially with bits of candy or cookies mixed in.

If you prefer a smooth and creamy fudge, feel free to skip the crushed candy canes. I usually only top about half of the recipe with crushed candy canes. The portion without candy is still full of peppermint flavor and everyone loves it.
